هذه ثالث رواية أقرأها للكاتب و دائمًا أعجب بالمحتوى من القضية و المواضيع التي يتناولها، فمثلًا هنا تناول الكاتب علاقة الابن و الأب في قضيانا : الأولى القضية الأساسية مقتل حارس الفندق حيث الآباء يرسمون مستقبل لأبنائهم كيفما يشاؤون دون الاهتمام بما يرده الأبناء و ما يشعرون به و أيضًا لتحقيق ذلك الحلم يحرمونهم من أشياء يظنون أنها تافه و لا تفيد مستقبلهم الذين قاموا برسمه لهم كاللعب مع الأطفال الأخرين و ذلك الأمر مهم جداً في ذلك السن لبناء الشخصية والثقة بالنفس لدى الطفل و أيضاً إهمال الأطفال و تحطي هذه ثالث رواية أقرأها للكاتب و دائمًا أعجب بالمحتوى من القضية و المواضيع التي يتناولها، فمثلًا هنا تناول الكاتب علاقة الابن و الأب في قضيانا : الأولى القضية الأساسية مقتل حارس الفندق حيث الآباء يرسمون مستقبل لأبنائهم كيفما يشاؤون دون الاهتمام بما يرده الأبناء و ما يشعرون به و أيضًا لتحقيق ذلك الحلم يحرمونهم من أشياء يظنون أنها تافه و لا تفيد مستقبلهم الذين قاموا برسمه لهم كاللعب مع الأطفال الأخرين و ذلك الأمر مهم جداً في ذلك السن لبناء الشخصية والثقة بالنفس لدى الطفل و أيضاً إهمال الأطفال و تحطيم ثقتهم بأنفسهم كما حدث مع أخت المقتول حيث دائما عاشت كظل لأخيها و خادم لأبيها طول عمرها دون أن تعلم ماذا تريد هي و ماذا ترغب به أما في القضية الثانية عن ما تعرض له الطفل من إعتداء تدل على أن أباء أحيانًا يقومون باخراج كل مشاكلهم و عقدهم النفسية على الأبناء وأيضًا خوف الطفل المعتدى عليه باعتراف بمن قد يكون قد سبب له كل هذا الأذى و هذا قد يؤدي إلى استمرارية الاعتداء و أيضاً دائمًا ما أحبة في قصص هذا الكاتب هو تخصيص جزء من القصة لحياة المحقق سواء الماضية و ماحدث له مع أخيه في العاصفة الثلجية و تأثير ذلك عليه إلى اليوم و أيضاً علاقة المحقق و أبنته و ما تواجهه من مشكلات في حياتها و أيضًا أعجبت بطريقة التنقل بين كل هذه المحاول في الرواية بشكل سلس و دون أرباك و أيضاً من الاشياء المثيرة للإعجاب في الرواية هي الترجمة كانت جداً متقنة و لا تشعرك بأن الكتاب مترجم كانت فعلًا ترجمة ممتازة ما شاء الله فشكرًا جزيلًا للمترجمة على هذا الأبداع 。。。more

This was the weakest of the 6 Erlendur books I've read to date （all English translations）。For me， the book circled again and again around Erlendur's childhood loss and it was too much。 Perhaps as a stand alone read it wouldn't feel so overdone but if you have been following the series it was too much。 The murder plot felt secondary。 The investigation wasn't very thrilling， sordid and unlikely。 We are given scandalous circumstances but not mystery。 The main setting is in a hotel so the story has This was the weakest of the 6 Erlendur books I've read to date （all English translations）。For me， the book circled again and again around Erlendur's childhood loss and it was too much。 Perhaps as a stand alone read it wouldn't feel so overdone but if you have been following the series it was too much。 The murder plot felt secondary。 The investigation wasn't very thrilling， sordid and unlikely。 We are given scandalous circumstances but not mystery。 The main setting is in a hotel so the story has none of the atmospheric elements that I think draws a lot of us to the series。I'm really hoping #6 is better。 。。。more

الرواية كانت بسيطة ومن منتصفها مثلا اتفهم الدافع ومين ممكن يكون الجاني لكن الشخصيات وحكاياتها كانت متنوعة وفيها بُعد إنساني لا علاقة له بتحليل الشخصيات وصولا للجاني كما هو معتاد في النوع ده من القصص، الإنتقال من قصة لقصة بتفاصيلها كان مُحكَم。تجربة أولى لطيفة مع الكاتب。

This time detective Erlendur investigates a murder that‘s a bit unconventional: somebody kills a Santa Clause in one of the hotels in Reykjavik， leaving poor Santa‘s body in an extremely compromising position。Why kill Santa？ Santa part-timing as a doorman and a jack of all trades？ A man barely worthy of note？As usual – no suspects， everyone‘s hush hush barely mentioning any hints on what may have happened here。 However， Erlendur finds a solution: he inhabits the hotel for the sake of investigati This time detective Erlendur investigates a murder that‘s a bit unconventional: somebody kills a Santa Clause in one of the hotels in Reykjavik， leaving poor Santa‘s body in an extremely compromising position。Why kill Santa？ Santa part-timing as a doorman and a jack of all trades？ A man barely worthy of note？As usual – no suspects， everyone‘s hush hush barely mentioning any hints on what may have happened here。 However， Erlendur finds a solution: he inhabits the hotel for the sake of investigation。The storyline of „Voices“ was probably more convoluted than that of „Jar City“。 More multilayered （a couple deus ex machina details aside）。 However， I found „Voices“ less tense in atmosphere – there are plenty of hotels all over the world and it turns out they all look pretty much the same。The story is slower too。 More flashbacks， which， even though revealing the wild and cruel side of Iceland and the events that led Erlendur to his current situation， were somewhat on the boring side。 It feels like everyone who ended up detective in fiction have to have lost someone。Flashback‘s on Erlendur‘s past aside， the story is also intertwined with another case investigated by Erlendur‘s colleague （a little boy gets cruelly beaten up）。 This story is told through his colleague‘s or his own flashbacks。 I ended up having mixed impression: on one hand， this case reads so realistic， being quite shocking with desperation and telling exactly why it‘s so difficult to work in the police。 On the other， it was irritating that this story ended up as some sort of filler to seal waiting gaps in the main case。 Looked almost like it was considered as a separate story at some point， however， was deemed it would be too dragged out for a book or something。 I somehow ended up willing to read through it asap just to get to the main story。What else？Pro: irritating former boss （thumbs up）。Con: police officer stressing on cookies more than on the case :（Overall。。。 Well， the story is actually quite good。 And yet， something was missing。Maybe I‘m just not quite in a detective story mood？ 。。。more

Inte lika bra som de andra jag har läst。 Språket var på något sätt simplare och det störde mig lite hur homosexuella beskrivs。 Det kan inte bara skyllas på tidsandan。 Jag hade också gärna haft fler scener med Sigurdur Oli， Elinborg och Erlendur tillsammans。 Däremot var scenerna med Erlander och hans dotter fina om än lite ansträngda ibland。

قرائاتي السابقة في مجال الادب البوليسي لأغاثا كريستي وشارلك هولمز أثرا على تقييمي لهذا العمل، اذ كنت طوال الوقت في مقارنة بين اسلوب الكاتب مع اسلوب الكاتبيْن المعروف بالروعة والابداع。 ولربما هذا ما ظلم هذا الكاتب الذي لم أقرأ له سابقاً。شعرت اثناء قرائتي ومحاولتي التعرف على الكاتب من خلال سطوره، ان هذا العمل كان عملاً اجتماعياً بصيغة فقيرة من الادب البوليسي ، وشخصياً رأيت فيه عملاً يعرض المشاكل العائلية والتربوية في المجتمع متطرقاً الى اهمية السنين الاولى من عمر الانسان واهمية العائلة في نشأته اك قرائاتي السابقة في مجال الادب البوليسي لأغاثا كريستي وشارلك هولمز أثرا على تقييمي لهذا العمل، اذ كنت طوال الوقت في مقارنة بين اسلوب الكاتب مع اسلوب الكاتبيْن المعروف بالروعة والابداع。 ولربما هذا ما ظلم هذا الكاتب الذي لم أقرأ له سابقاً。شعرت اثناء قرائتي ومحاولتي التعرف على الكاتب من خلال سطوره، ان هذا العمل كان عملاً اجتماعياً بصيغة فقيرة من الادب البوليسي ، وشخصياً رأيت فيه عملاً يعرض المشاكل العائلية والتربوية في المجتمع متطرقاً الى اهمية السنين الاولى من عمر الانسان واهمية العائلة في نشأته اكثر مما ركز على حبكة القصة وجانبها البوليسي المعروف في التحقيق والتحري。وفي النهاية لا بد ان ارفق هنا سؤالاً دار في خلدي حتى انتهيت من القصة، وهو : لماذا استغرق تحليل الحمض النووي كل هذا الوقت ولم تظهر نتائجه؟ اذ ان نتائج هذا التحليل كانت ستقضي الى الفاعل خلال يوم او يومين فقط。 ولهذا كان من الاجدر عدم ارفاق امر الحمض النووي من الاساس。 。。。more

Best for:People who like mysteries set around Christmastime。In a nutshell:Detective Erlendur is called to investigate a murder that took place at a hotel a week before Christmas。Worth quoting:N/AWhy I chose it:I’m enjoying having something somewhat easy to read in between more substantial books。 That sounds like an insult， but I don’t mean it that way at all。Review:I said in my last review that I was hoping this author wasn’t committed to having women always （only？） be the victims of the crimes Best for:People who like mysteries set around Christmastime。In a nutshell:Detective Erlendur is called to investigate a murder that took place at a hotel a week before Christmas。Worth quoting:N/AWhy I chose it:I’m enjoying having something somewhat easy to read in between more substantial books。 That sounds like an insult， but I don’t mean it that way at all。Review:I said in my last review that I was hoping this author wasn’t committed to having women always （only？） be the victims of the crimes his detective investigates， and I got my wish with this one。 While a woman does play a prominent role in the investigation， the story involves the murder of a man who was formerly a renowned choirboy。This story definitely has a more claustrophobic feel than the previous two books。 Erlendur spends the duration of the novel staying in the hotel where the murder took place， taking his meals， meeting with his daughter， and of course， investigating the crime。 It’s snowing out， Christmas is approaching， and there’s both a sense of urgency and a sense of calm in the book。The book also does an interesting job of exploring the expectations families put on children， and how when they may not live up to those expectations — either by circumstances， or by choice — parents can be cruel in response。 It also looks at how people who are perceived as being different are treated， both as children and as adults。 Kind of a lot of a mystery， eh？It took my a month to read the book， but not because it was a hard read。 I just had to allow myself the time to get into it - this can’t be a book you read a couple of chapters at a time - this is a good book to pick up at lunch and commit to reading all afternoon。Keep it / Pass to a Friend / Donate it / Toss it:Donate it 。。。more
